The Journal of Digital Pedagogy employs a rigorous double-blind peer review process to ensure the quality, originality, and scholarly merit of all published research. This policy outlines the procedures, timelines, and standards that guide our peer review process, ensuring transparency, fairness, and academic excellence in all editorial decisions.
Review Process
All article submissions undergo a two-stage evaluation process. Initially, each manuscript receives preliminary assessment by at least two members of the editorial team to determine its suitability for peer review, relevance to the journal’s scope, and adherence to submission guidelines.
Comprehensive plagiarism detection screening is performed by the secretariat before any content analysis, maintaining the journal’s zero-tolerance plagiarism policy (including self-plagiarism), as detailed in the Ethics Policy. Any case of fraud or misconduct results in immediate submission rejection.
Manuscripts that pass this initial screening are then anonymized—with all author identifying information removed—and sent to two independent, external scholars with relevant expertise in the manuscript’s subject area for double-blind peer review. This anonymization process protects both author and reviewer identities, ensuring objective evaluation based solely on the scholarly merit of the work. Reviewers are selected from the journal’s database of experts in digital pedagogy and related fields, with careful attention to avoiding conflicts of interest.
Reviewer Selection and Responsibilities
Reviewers are chosen based on their demonstrated expertise in the specific topic area of the submitted manuscript, their track record of timely and constructive reviews, and their standing in the academic community. The journal maintains a diverse pool of reviewers across geographic regions, institutional affiliations, and areas of specialization within digital pedagogy.
Reviewers are expected to provide detailed, constructive feedback that helps authors improve their work while maintaining rigorous academic standards. As outlined in the Ethics Policy, reviewers must only accept assignments relevant to their expertise, maintain confidentiality of the manuscript, avoid conflicts of interest, complete reviews in a timely manner (typically within three to four weeks), and treat all work fairly without prejudice.
Reviewers provide recommendations to accept, accept with minor revisions, accept with major revisions, or reject the manuscript, accompanied by detailed comments justifying their recommendation and offering specific guidance for improvement.
Editorial Decisions and Author Communication
Following receipt of peer review reports, the Editor-in-Chief and the JDP secretariat evaluates the reviewers’ assessments and makes a final editorial decision. In cases where reviewers disagree significantly, a third reviewer may be consulted, or the editorial team may provide additional evaluation.
Authors receive detailed feedback from the peer review process, including anonymized reviewer comments and clear guidance on any required revisions. For manuscripts requiring revisions, authors are given reasonable time (typically two to four weeks for minor revisions, six to twelve weeks for major revisions) to address reviewer concerns and resubmit their work. Revised manuscripts are returned to the original reviewers when possible to ensure that concerns have been adequately addressed.
The journal is committed to providing initial decisions within two to four weeks of submission, with article proposals receiving a response within a maximum of two weeks regarding their suitability for full peer review. Authors have the right to appeal editorial decisions by providing a detailed written justification to the Editor-in-Chief (olimpius.istrate@unibuc.ro) and the Secretariat (office@iEdu.ro).
Quality Assurance and Continuous Improvement
The Journal of Digital Pedagogy is committed to maintaining and continuously improving the quality of its peer review process. The editorial team regularly evaluates reviewer performance, solicits feedback from authors and reviewers about their experience, and updates review guidelines to reflect evolving best practices in scholarly publishing. Reviewers who consistently provide high-quality, timely, and constructive reviews may be recognized for their contributions and invited to join the journal’s editorial board or scientific committee.
The journal maintains detailed records of the peer review process for each manuscript, ensuring accountability and enabling quality audits.
All participants in the peer review process — editors, reviewers, and authors — are expected to uphold the highest standards of academic integrity, as detailed in the journal’s Ethics Policy, and to contribute to a collegial, constructive, and rigorous scholarly community dedicated to advancing the field of digital pedagogy.
